Future Representations - 3 Render suite Unit 17 Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located in Sri Lanka . The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres. The aim of our brief is to investigate the architecture of a proposed space elevator and the potential subsequent rapid urbanization of this historic place. This is all based on the narrative of Arthur C. Clarke's novel, "The Fountains of Paradise". I have created the topography of the model by using a combination of downloaded ArcGIS topo geometry and Google Eath PRO terrain in conjunction with information from "The Sigiriya Royal Gardens" by Nilan Cooray. For the geometry of the rock formation I have used surveys from "The Sigiriya Royal Gardens" book and modelled it using Artisan Organic Toolset ( a third party plugin software for Google Sketchup that allows for organic sculpting ) and images o...
